Dear GCA
Family,
Due to
impossible circumstances, including the shortened summer, we will be unable to
hold our regular summer program this year. We are very saddened by this, but
with all of the LAUSD schools scrambling to have campuses ready for an August
start, there is no room for our program.
In lieu of
our regular program we wish to keep the spirit of GCA alive by making a few
offerings to our membership this summer. We are working with some of our
teachers to make online programming as well as weekend meet ups to continue the
fun and learning in 2012. We would like to continue to offer opportunities for
old friends to meet and new friends to be made in our community.
First, we
would like to offer a group sales trip to see “Chimpanzee” at the El Capitan Theater on Saturday, May
21, 2012. We must have a minimum of 20 tickets sold to make this trip a
reality. In addition to seeing the movie, a portion of the proceeds will go to
the Jane Goodall Foundation. As part of admission, there will be a wildlife
show at the theater. This will be a great event for all. If you are interested, please email us how
many tickets you would like. We are looking
at the late afternoon showing.
Second, our
Harry Potter teacher is working on making some of her classes in an online
format so that they can be continued. The online course will be open to any
members on a first come first come, first served basis with a limit of 30
participants. We are also working on having one or two park meet-ups that will
include a quidditch game and a pot luck "feast" for a nominal fee.
She is also contemplating an online Movie Madness class and an online Lego Architect
class.
Last, we
would like to offer a group sales opportunity to see Pixar's Brave at the El
Captian Theater. A minimum of 20 tickets must be sold to make this trip happen.
A separate
e-mail will be sent with specific details for any opportunities as soon as they
are available.
If you would
like to help organize day trips or have suggestions on how to keep our
membership involved this summer, please contact us. As we are a membership
organization, it will improve the experience for all.
Thank you
for your membership and understanding. We look forward to seeing everyone next
summer when we resume a normal summer program!
